Marcus Whale conceived this work for shared listening at fine print’s second READING CIRCLES held at ACE Open in April, an afternoon of sound and performance works that sat as part of The image is not nothing (Concrete Archives).

Monopoly responds to Armenian-American artist Nina Katchadourian’s 2005 work, Accent Elimination, a six-channel moving image work that represented Armenia in the 2015 Venice Biennale and explores the displacement of peoples, cultural erasure, and the way language can both bring us together and serve as a barrier between communities.

With Monopoly, Marcus looks at our connection to place and identity through accents, code switching, and the power of language.
